Dr. Lu began his dental career as a military dentist, serving in the U.S. Army for eight years. During his service, he was stationed with troops in South Korea and completed multiple tours throughout the continental United States. While serving with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York, he was promoted to the rank of Major.

At Fort Gordon, Georgia, Dr. Lu attended and completed the Army’s three-year postgraduate residency training. During this time, he pursued an additional academic program, earning a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from Augusta University in 2012. As a board-certified specialist in Periodontology and Implant Surgery, he is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology.

His move to California was the result of a silent agreement between him and his wife. The two met during dental school at the University of Pittsburgh. The agreement was that after they married, she would follow him throughout his military career, and in return, they would eventually settle on the West Coast—preferably in Southern California, where she was from. Of course, the beautiful weather and beaches made the decision even easier for him.
